Glory Designs began out of desperation  while looking for that "perfect barrette" that would not "pop" out of my very thick long hair or break – only to be tossed into a drawer of other barrette pieces that no longer worked.

I love hair barrettes and really see them as a jewelry accessory – so my quest to make my own barrettes was a serious one. I made a lot of discoveries about what makes a good or a bad barrette. But nothing was more important than the discovery of French Barrette Clasps – this discovery literally brought an end to barrettes that went "pop" or broke into two separate pieces.

The other discoveries were fun – like going to local estate sales and finding old jewelry to turn into barrettes. Eventually I had girl friends asking me to make barrettes out of their own jewelry that they no longer wore. One thing led to another – and things quickly moved into art shows and gift shops.

Brooches were born out of the art shows – so many women would stop to buy a barrette thinking they were looking at brooches………..and countless of them suggested that I turn my barrettes into brooches.  I was determined to have the same level of quality in brooches as I did the barrettes – but how could I when "pin backs" were seldom strong, too small, fell apart and left holes in one’s clothes? Then the "AHA" moment came – why not magnetic clasps instead of the usual pin backs? It took a long time and some trial and error to come up with magnetic backs that worked on jewelry – but finally, design and the necessary clasp came together to make for beautiful brooches that would never fall apart and not destroy one’s clothing.

We are located in the beautiful Appalachian Mountains and many of our pieces capture the flavor and traditions of the area. However you will find a wide variety of  designs  from Art Deco to Art Nouveau to Victorian - and even Steam Punk!

So enjoy the results of this long quest for "just the right barrette or brooch" and begin one of your own. The most important thing is to provide you with beautiful barrettes and brooches that are great to wear – knowing they won’t fall apart into pieces!
